Physics speaks of interference when two waves overlap and superimpose, thus a new wave is created. This wave has a different shape with a larger, smaller or similar amplitude.

The four artists of Interferenz – inbetween dance and photography bring their different art forms together in this way. They create something new by means of differences, possible opposites and contradictions, together. Interferenz is an exploration of dance and photography, which become counterparts in the creative process.

The photographer Ilmė Vyšniauskaitė and the dancers Carla Petzolt, Mareile Gnep and Miriam Taschler focus on the concept of shame in relation to social, political and cultural systems. Through interdisciplinary work, the artists look for ways to occupy space. They focus on the shame that lies in and on individual bodies and address questions about vulnerability, intimacy, shame and nationality, and feminist perspectives on shame. Interferenz is a first step towards breaking down these concepts with the interdisciplinary tools of dance and photography.
